Despite current fuel prices being as high as the airplanes themselves, Southwest Airlines celebrates its 40th birthday with the intention to continue its service for many more years to come. In recent talks with Solena, Southwest Airlines plans to secure a deal with the biomass fuel company. The deal will provide the airline company with fuel produced from biomass.

Along with several other airlines, including Alaska Airlines, American Airlines, FedEx, JetBlue Airways, United Continental, and US Airways, Southwest Airlines is negotiating with Solena Fuels for a supply of 100% biomass fuel. Solena hopes their GreenSky plant in northern California will be able to convert 550,000 tons into 16 million gallons of fuel by the year 2015.

Today, June 17, 2011, is the 40th birthday of Drug War. 40 years ago, President Richard Nixon gave birth to his now infamous baby when he declared a “War on Drugs” in the United States. Since then, we have witnessed the constant and relentless violations of life and property of the American people. Many of these people have never even taken any “illegal” drugs but were victims of wrongful identifications on the part of authorities. Most of them have ended up dead as a result of overzealous police and swat teams.

Today, President Obama, an admitted former cocaine user and someone who promised “change we can count on” during his campaign, continues to follow suit of previous Presidents. There is no hesitation on his administration’s part to throwing people into prison. A punishment he himself was lucky enough to avoid since he was not caught. We can see his zeal to incarcerate individuals simply by looking at his actions vs. his words. He promised to respect the medical marijuana laws of all states where the voters approved of such laws.
