I was home for the summer, and the Daily News hired me as its police reporter.

Our paths rarely crossed that summer but later, when I returned as a degreed journalist, we shared 25 of the 42 years Peggy worked here.

Peggy died early Tuesday morning after a brief illness. I knew her not only as a colleague but also as a friend.

She attended my wedding as well as the baby shower for my twins. I was honored to see Peggy inducted into the Okaloosa County Women’s Hall of Fame.
