County to accept child-care licensing grant

Shawnee County commissioners learned Thursday that no county tax support will be needed next year to run the county's child care licensing program.
Earlier this year, commissioners discussed canceling the program amid concerns that county taxpayer dollars would be needed to help finance it for 2012.
Commissioners Vic Miller, Shelly Buhler and Ted Ensley voted 3-0 Thursday to enter into a contract with the Kansas Department of Health and Environment through which the county will receive $152,817 in grant money to help operate the licensing program.
